Can Patient with Polycystic Kidney Disease Drink Alcohol
Polycystic kidney disease is an inherited disease that causes cysts to form in the kidneys.Drinking alcohol is what many people like, well then, when diagnosed as PKD, should people continue to drink alcohol? If you happen to be a person with PKD, you are suggested to avoid or at least limit alcohol as much as possible.

There are 4 reasons why alcohol is not a good choice for patients with PKD.

1. Much alcohol will raise your blood pressure which in turn aggravates your condition.

2.Alcohol over intake compromises the function of the kidneys by altering fluids levels, especially electrolytes. In addition, alcohol consumption will create fluctuations in the hormones that govern kidney function with regard to various physiological processes, such as blood potassium or blood pressure regulation.

3.Alcohol itself can harm the kidneys. It can disturb organic urea balance and promote protein decomposition thus producing more urea nitrogen.

4. It is more likely to cause many other diseases such as liver problems and some cancers.
Considering all the bad effects of alcohol, people with PKD need to quit it for their own health.
