i'm a 20 year old guy, in june of this year i was diagnosed with polycystic kidney disease. its been very hard trying to accept it. what i want to know is, can i still live a full normal life and die an old man?
Yes, you can live a normal full life.. and die an old man. It isn't a definitive terminal illness. It is more a complicated (see as you go) type of illness.
It does generally result in end-stage kidney failure eventually.. at which point transplant will be the option of choice. You have no less chance of acceptance/success than any other person who received transplant.
Generally management of the cysts and kidney function is paramount and given your age.. I assume your kidneys have some level of dysfunction but still have quite enough to not cause any large problems.
It progresses at different rates in everyone. I'm sure your therapies will help it progress more slowly.
